The preservation of Pedra de Xangô, located in Cajazeiras 10, is on the agenda again. The event “Patrimônio é”, promoted by the City of Salvador, is back in 2021. Adapted to the pandemic, this year it will take place completely virtually and will be broadcast on the Gregório de Mattos Foundation’s YouTube channel, next Wednesday (24), at 6:30 pm. The chosen theme is “Kaô Kabecilê, let’s walk and do justice!”
Pedra do Xangô is a cultural, geological, symbolic and mythical heritage site of the city of Salvador, considered a sacred place for followers of religions of African origin. The setting for liturgical rituals, the geological site has great cultural importance and is a topic of discussion at several meetings that aim to reflect on the protection and maintenance of the local physical and identity.
The natural monument is of national importance due to its scientific, educational and touristic values. Its main thematic classification is metaformism, characterized by the transformations that the rock has undergone over the years, subjected to temperature, pressure, fluids and the effects of time. The gneiss rock has subvertical foliation with a N90º direction, consisting of a slab and two residual blocks.
“Heritage is” is part of the Living Memory project and promotes conversations about the city’s heritage.
