House of Jorge Amado and Zelia Gattai: The property at number 33 on Rua Alagoinhas, in Rio Vermelho, was the home of the writing duo for 37 years. A cradle of precious stories, the place was kept under lock and key for over a decade, but has just been opened to the public. Completely restored, the rooms of Casa do Rio Vermelho have regained their former vigor thanks to the hands of architect and set designer Gringo Cardia, who curated the project. Visitors can walk through over 1,000 square meters, divided into fifteen rooms filled with furniture, works of art, photographs and other personal objects belonging to Amado and Zélia, whose ashes are buried in the mansion’s emblematic garden. Museum of Art of Bahia – MAB It was created in 1918. The initial core of the museum’s collection was the private collection of paintings by European and Bahian artists of the English physician Jonathas Abbott, acquired in 1871 by the then vice-president of the Province of Bahia. Its rooms also contain 18th-century furniture, silverware, porcelain from the Dutch West India Company, jewelry, paintings and sacred sculptures. Walking along the Barra waterfront: the stretch that extends from the Port to the Lighthouse has a boardwalk that is an invitation for walks. Admiring the works of Auguste Rodin: frescoes, Italian stained glass windows and the ipê floor with mosaic tiles and marquetry are worth a visit to the impressive 1912 mansion that houses the Palacete das Artes – Rodin Bahia. Attached to the building, a modernist construction hosts temporary exhibitions of contemporary art and, in the French-inspired garden, there are four bronze sculptures by Auguste Rodin. Throughout the week, there are regular cultural events, such as soirees on Saturdays and musical performances on Sundays, both starting at 4 pm.
